What is the TCF for Quebec?
The "TCF pour le Quebec", or TCF for Quebec, has been specially designed to be consistent with the standards of the Ministry of Immigration (MICC) of Quebec, and is only intended for people wishing to settle in Quebec.
The TCF for Quebec includes two examinations:
- listening comprehension (30 questions). Duration of examination: 30 minutes
- spoken expression (6 questions). Duration of examination: 15 minutes
Your TCF for Quebec certificate is only valid for your immigration application. You cannot use it, for example, for admission to a French university.
When do I have to register for a TCF for Quebec examination session?
TCF for Quebec examination sessions are held throughout the year. Approved centres are allowed to hold as many examination sessions as they wish in the last 10 days of each month. It is up to you to contact, as quickly as possible, your nearest approved TCF test centre.

If my results are not good enough, can I take the TCF for Quebec again?
You can take the TCF for Quebec as many times as you like. There must, however, be a gap of 2 months between examination sessions.
For example, if you take the TCF for Quebec on 20 January, you will not be able to take it again before 20 March of the same year.
How long will it be before my certificate is available, and where do I collect it from?
Your certificate will usually be available approximately 20 days after you took the TCF for Quebec. You should collect it from the test centre at which you took the TCF for Quebec examinations.
At the same time, the CIEP will send your results to the Ministry of Immigration (MICC) in Quebec directly. You should still include your certificate in your immigration application, even if the Ministry has your results.
Is my TCF for Quebec certificate valid for an unlimited period?
Your certificate has a limited validity period. It is valid for 2 years.
For example, if you take the TCF for Quebec examinations on 18 June 2007, your certificate will be valid until 17 June 2009. After this date, your certificate will no longer be valid.
What level do I have to achieve for my immigration application to be accepted by the Quebec immigration department?
Your TCF for Quebec certificate is not the only document that the Quebec immigration department will ask you to provide. You will need to provide other documents (information on your finances and work, etc.).
The immigration department will assess your level of competency in French on the basis of your TCF for Quebec certificate, in order to decide whether or not it is acceptable. This level can vary according to different criteria. The immigration department will provide you with an answer once all of the documents in your application have been assessed.
