What is a regulated profession?

The term "regulated profession" as used in Directive 2005/36/EC of the European Parliament and the Council of 7 September 2005, is defined in section 3) 1.a) of the Directive: "an activity or group of professional activities, whose access, practice or conditions of practice are directly or indirectly dependent, in accordance with laws, regulations or administrative provisions, on possession of specific professional qualifications; the use of a professional title limited by laws, regulations or administrative provisions to holders of a given professional qualification constitutes a condition of practice."
