Once you receive your arrêté de nomination, i.e. the official notice of your appointment, you should:
If you are a citizen from a non-EU country, you must apply for a long-term visa (D type) through a French Consulate in your country (click here for a list of addresses) by downloading the “formulaire visa long séjour – demande d’attestation OFII” on the OFII website. The Consulate will sign the OFII form and process the long-term type D visa. You must bring the original document with you when you enter France.
If you are an EU national, ensure that your passport is valid for the full duration of your stay in France.
